Bookmark Using a World Wide Web browser, a saved link to a Web page that has been added to a list of saved links.8 In Internet Explorer, they are known as "Favorites".
Cookie Information that a Web site puts on your hard disk so that it can remember something about you at a later time. Typically, it records your preferences when using a particular site.8
Domain Name Locates an organization or other entity on the Internet. It is the first level of the Web page's address.8 The last level is the page's file name, while all middle layers represent folders.
Download to transfer data from one computer to another. (If you are on the receiving end, you are downloading. If you are on the sending end, you are uploading.)1
HTTP Hypertext Transfer Protocol is the set of rules for transferring files (text, graphic images, sound, video, and other multimedia files) on the World Wide Web.8
Internet Sometimes called simply "the Net," it is a worldwide system of computer networks - a network of networks in which users at any one computer can, if they have permission, get information from any other computer (and sometimes talk directly to users at other computers).8
Netiquette Etiquette (manners; polite behavior) on the Internet. Since the Internet changes rapidly, its netiquette does too, but it's still usually based on the Golden Rule.8
Plugin Programs that can easily be installed and used as part of your Web browser. It is recognized automatically by the browser and its function is integrated into the main HTML file that is being presented.8
Search Engine Program or script available through the Internet that searches various types of documents for keywords and if found returns the documents containing those keywords.4
Spyware Adware applications that collect information from computers and their users and uploads it without the users explicit permission and/or knowledge.
URL (Uniform Resource Locator, previously Universal Resource Locator) is the unique address for a file that is accessible on the Internet. A common way to get to a Web site is to enter the URL of its home page file in your Web browser's address line.8
Web site Shortened term for World Wide Web site.5
