Chapter 29 Essay

Question:

You have now read the twenty-ninth chapter of Farmer Boy. In this last chapter, Almanzo is faced with a life-changing decision. Should he accept Mr. Paddock's offer of an apprenticeship or should he continue to work on the farm with his Father? What choice does he make? How is this decision going to affect the rest of his life?

Back in Chapter 23, Royal told Almanzo that he would be a fool if he wanted to be a farmer. Farming is a challenging profession, but it can also be very rewarding. What choice would you have made if you were Almanzo? Would you make the same choice he did? Why or why not. Please include examples of both advantages and disadvantages to your decision. Explain your answer. Non-detailed responses will NOT be accepted.
