This is an interactive learning site to correspond with the novel, The Indian School , written by Gloria Whelan. The site includes chapter vocabulary, activities, and essay questions.
In reading this story, students will gain an understanding of the novel The Indian School . They will learn important values of acceptance and elements of the Native American experience. They will learn values about overcoming difficult situations.
The activities on this site are divided between chapters. These activities enrich the student's learning experiences from the novel.
Vocabulary : Each chapter contains a list of vocabulary words. Here are lists of those words and their definitions. There are also a practice activities for each list to help students learn and remember the vocabulary words. Students will make flashcards to be added to their cumulative vocabulary box. Students will be given a weekly quiz on vocabulary words. There will also be a Unit Vocabulary Test over words from the whole book. Sstudents will have opportunity to use completed flashcards on test.
Activities : Each chapter contains one learning activity. The activities monitor the comprehension of the reading. Each chapters also have an essay question. The essay questions will aid students in thinking about the contextual themes of the story. They will help students to connect the story to their own real-life experiences. The essay questions must be answered using a word processor and formatted according to class essay guidelines , printed, and submitted to the teacher before the next reading day.
