LEARN
- Locate the keys on your Keyboard
- Place your fingers on the home row keys
- Reach up with your left middle finger to reach the E key found above the D.
- Keep all other fingers on home row keys.
- Return your middle finger to the D key.
- Reach up with your right index finger to reach the U key found above the J.
- Keep all other fingers on home row keys.
- Return your index finger to the J key.
- Practice your finger strokes:
- Return your hands to the keyboard.
- Be sure that your fingers are resting on the appropriate keys.
- Remember to rest your fingers lightly on the keys.
- Your fingers should be curved above the keys and your wrists should arch above the keyboard.
- Allowing your wrists to rest on the keyboard will harm your ability to type quickly and accurately.
- The positioning of your wrists on the keyboard can also lead to muscle disorders such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
- Open Windows Notepad (Start Menu -- Programs -- Accessories -- Notepad)
- If you cannot find Notepad on your computer, please ask your instructor for assistance.
- Maximize your window (Choose the Middle Button in the Upper Right Hand Corner of the Notepad Window)
- This will cause your Notepad window to fill the whole screen.
- Go to File -- Save
- Go to your Keyboarding Folder: Z:\\Keyboarding\
- Name your file "Lesson02"
- Type your Name and the Date at the top of the document.
- Type the following lines.
REVIEW
- Save your file: File -- Save
- Remember to extend your right little finger out to the Enter Key
- Keep the remainder of your fingers on their home keys & return quickly.
- Type each line twice. Double space after each 2-line group..:
fff jjj ddd kkk sss lll aaa ;;; fdsa jkl; fdsajkl;
fad fad jal jal sad sad lad lad dad dad asks asks;
add add; dad dad; fall fall; asks asks; lass lass;
ask ada; ask jal; dad asks a lad; a sad lad falls;
ask a lad; jal asks a sad lad; a sad lad asks dad;
STRETCH BREAK
- Take a minute to stretch out
- Stand up
- Bend down and touch your toes
- Stretch your arms above your head
- Stretch your arms out to your sides
- Flex your fingers
PRACTICE: E
- Save your file: File -- Save
- Practice reaching from D to E without moving your other fingers.
- When you can reach to E without looking:
PRACTICE: U
- Save your file: File -- Save
- Practice reaching from J to U without moving your other fingers.
- When you can reach to U without looking:
SKILLS BOOSTER
- Save your file: File -- Save
- Type each line three times.
- Practice words that have errors.
- Try for a PERFECT copy of both lines.:
ask sue; a full fee; use a desk; see a jade flask;
feed jal a salad; sue sells flasks; ella asks sue;
STRETCH BREAK
- Take a minute to stretch out

EXTRA PRACTICE
- Save your file: File -- Save
- If you have extra time after completing the assigned task:
- Enter twice after the end of the text in your current document
- Type the heading EXTRA PRACTICE in all Capital letters
- Enter twice more after typing the heading
- Repeat the lines from the current lesson
- Repeat step 4 if necessary
- Use your imagination to develop 10 lines of text using the keys that you have learned up to this point.
FINISH UP
- Double-check that your name and the date is at the top of the page
- Save your file: File -- Save
- Print to Lab Printer
- DO NOT go to printer to pick it up.Your instructor will pick up all pages at once.
