LEARN
- Locate the keys on your Keyboard
- Place your fingers on the home row keys
- Reach up with your right little finger to reach the - key found above the ;.
- Keep all other fingers on home row keys.
- Return your little finger to the ; key.
- Reach up with your left little finger to reach the Caps Lock key found near the A.
- Use the Caps Lock to type words in ALL CAPITALS. Do not use Caps Locks for single letters.
- The Caps Lock toggles keys so that all keys type capital letters.
- A light on your keyboard should notify you that Caps Lock is on.
- To toggle keys back to lowercase letters, type the Caps Lock key again.
- Keep all other fingers on home row keys.
- Return your little finger to the A key.
- Practice your finger strokes:
- Return your hands to the keyboard.
- Open Windows Notepad
- Maximize your window
- Go to File -- Save
- Go to your Keyboarding Folder: Z:\\Keyboarding\
- Name your file "Lesson12"
- Type your Name and the Date at the top of the document.
- Type the following lines.
REVIEW
- Save your file: File -- Save
- Remember to extend your right little finger out to the Enter Key
- Type each line twice. Double space after each 2-line group..:
ask jal; ask a lad; half a glass; a lad had a fall
lax lax van van max max can can cab cabs jazz jazz
wit yet ire ore type quit wrote erupt witty puppet
The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy old dogs.
You can do the work well if you know how to do it.
STRETCH BREAK
- Take a minute to stretch out
- Stand up
- Bend down and touch your toes
- Stretch your arms above your head
- Stretch your arms out to your sides
- Flex your fingers
PRACTICE: - (Hyphen)
- Save your file: File -- Save
- Practice reaching from ; to - without moving your other fingers.
- DID YOU KNOW?: Two hyphens typed together -- create a "Dash"
- Do NOT use spaces before and after a Dash.
- When you can reach to - without looking:
PRACTICE: Caps Lock
- Save your file: File -- Save
- Practice reaching from A to Caps Lock without moving your other fingers.
- Do NOT use Caps Lock to Capitalize single letters.
- Remember, do NOT hold the Caps Lock. Stricking it toggles as keys to CAPITALS.
- You can also choose "All Caps" from your font options to type all CAPITALS.
- Remember to strike Caps Locks a second time to return to lowercase letters.
- When you can reach to Caps Lock without looking:
- Type the following lines 2 times each. Double-Space after each 2-line group
To type words in ALL CAPITALS, use the Caps Lock.

- Type each paragraph slowly, smoothly.
- Block Paragraphs are NOT indented..
- Remember to use word wrap and let the words wrap themselves. DO NOT ENTER AFTER EACH LINE!
- Practice words that have errors.
- Try for a PERFECT copy of both lines.:
Dear Vera: I am glad to hear that your sister-in-law passed the examination for high school teacher.
Dear Buzz: Did you know that Roxie Jimson--Shorty to the class--won that school typewriting contest?

EXTRA PRACTICE
- Save your file: File -- Save
- If you have extra time after completing the assigned task:
- Enter twice after the end of the text in your current document
- Type the heading EXTRA PRACTICE in all Capital letters
- Enter twice more after typing the heading
- Repeat the lines from the current lesson
- Repeat step 4 if necessary
- Use your imagination to develop 10 lines of text using the keys that you have learned up to this point.
FINISH UP
- Double-check that your name and the date is at the top of the page
- Save your file: File -- Save
- Print to Lab Printer
- DO NOT go to printer to pick it up.Your instructor will pick up all pages at once.
