Question:

You have now read the thirteenth chapter of Farmer Boy. The tin-peddler had told Father that he should be able to get $200 apiece for his horses. When the horse-buyer came and offered $175 apiece, Father asked for $225, even though he wanted $200. Why did he ask for more than he wanted? Then, when the buyer still would not consider more than $175, Father said he would split the difference and ask for $200. This type of trading is often called bartering or dickering. Have you ever seen anyone barter for a certain amount of money when selling their product? What types of things do we still barter for today? Non-detailed responses will NOT be accepted.
